I would not do a whole site overhaul unless you think your site really needs it, for the most part if it is working for you now and it is not broke don't fix it, just fine tune it! Here is the Audio Link: Google Over Optimization Penalties. From listening to the audio clip I get a few great tips which I already use here at JavaScripts and More.
I have a few techniques I use here on this site to help my rankings. These tecniques I use work for this site and I have seen the traffic jump drastically and I'm sure by implementing some of these techniques you will also see more targeted traffic. Correlating Sites: I create blogs from WordPress, Blogger MyOpera and such with links that correlate to each page on my main site. These sites are for informational purposes only and are descriptive with links that include the topic to each page of my main site. Social Sites: I use Google+, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Chill.com, Zurker and a Stumbleupon just to mention a few to promote my pages. I create contests and usefull content that teaches or gives tips on certain topics that people will like, re-tweet, re-pin(include additional links in your pins to your site) and share to create a viral lift. Deep Linking: Deep linking will show up in Google's results as additional links below the main result for the search query. make these deep links descriptive and have the same title that matched the page you are linking too. If you have pages that you think are more important, don't put those links no farther 1 to 2 clicks from the main page, this will tell Google about he importance of those links and establish hierarchy. Tags: Use tags to describe your page by using keyword variations and try to use them within your content on the page.Bookmarking Sites: use these sites to create bookmarks and make them public and descriptive pointing to your site. Google still uses links to rank your site, and when you have popular sites that link back to your pages this gives some of that authority to your pages. Long Tail Keywords: These type of Keywords are more descriptive and easier to rank for. They can produce more targeted traffic and with Google's new Semantic Search, these types of Keywords will make a big difference in rankings as Google will better understand what the user is searching for. Additional Resources Google has also released a video of a Search results quality meeting with some points to follow: In Closing, I would like to take a minute and discuss why you should not be to worried about over optimizing. Take a look at these other big sites like delicious.com, Digg, StumbleUpon and Social Bookmarking sites. These sites most likely will not be penalized even though they are rich with keyword content using cloud tags and categories that have single keywords and key-phrases.
They have content that is constantly fresh, the sites have been around for a long time, their social engagement is astronomical and they give value to a good user experience. Like I said above, I would not do a site overhaul unless it is giving a bad user experience and is not offering unique content that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet. Since I'm Irish I figure why not celebrate St. Patrick's day with a little data on this oh so important day! first I want you to see my T-Shirt I bought for only like $5. St. Patrick's Day
Saint Patrick is the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland. St Patrick is credited with bringing christianity to Ireland. Corned Beef Corned beef and cabbage is a traditional St. Patrick's Day dish. In 2009, roughly 26.1 billion pounds of beef and 2.3 billion pounds of cabbage were produced in the United States. Irish Americans The Wall Street Journal reports that Google along with MetaWeb are updating their Search Algorithm so that the Search Engine understands queries that have more than one meaning using Entities. What are Entities? Watch the video below for a further explanation. Homonyms What I take from the video is that Semantic Search will better understand a word or set of words like "Fluke" and the results will show links to a "Fish" and not results that include links to the movie "Fluke" about a dog.. Google's search engine will better understand a search querie based on Metawebs technology and show you more targeted results. I'm interested how this is going to effect Long Tail Keywords that can have many meanings. Internet Marketers and webmasters looking to rank higher for Long tail keywords and can benefit from SEO with the new Semantic search by further defining what they mean by tagging Entities with the Metaweb technology. Compund Words If you are using compound words like "Notebook" Google already recognizes that most people are searching for "Notebook" Computers and not about Notebooks for writing in. I think when you get to the Semantic Search just like now you may have a hard time ranking for that keyword, and if you have a site that sells Notebooks for school kids, that keyword will be very difficult to rank for. However I do believe with Google tracking your "cookies" and based on your profile they can send you more targeted results for the right meaning. Palidromes I searched for Keywords that have the same letters like "dennis" and "Sinned" and Google has no problem showing results that are the correct results for their respective English meanings. I wonder what google is going to do for these kinds of words that are meant for foreign websites and they are read from right to left. This why Google has Search Engine results and web page evaluators that are currently classifying every page on the web to make search queries are more relevant for Top Level Domains and such. Long Tail Keywords Usually it is easier to rank for Long Tail Keywords and the traffic is more targeted. With Semantic Search I think they should be descriptive and the results will be more defined and data driven. Use the MetaWeb technology to your advantage and build a website with products and services including their data for a better user experience and achieve better rankings for pages that have unique useful information. In closing I think Entities are a good idea and are driven by human results to build a more intuitive search experience. Search Engines are constantly modifying their algorithms so not only no-one may game the system but to serve up more relevant and targeted results defined by their own users. I would head on over to my profile on Freebase.com which is Metawebs database for its new Search technology and start defining your entities to help your brand and SEO efforts. Internet Marketers are always looking for new ways to create new unique content to add to their sites. As we all know content is king and the more unique content, the more targeted traffic. Pinterest and InstaGram are two Photo Sharing sites. According to the twitter numbers Instagram has 1.5M followers compared to Pinterests 569K. If you look further down the Infographic, Pinterest is getting much more mentions probably because of all the latest media hype.
I think InstaGrams iphone app makes it easy to share and that's why there are much more followers. Maybe Pinterest should come out with its own app for Smartphones and see their twitter followers increase substantially. Everybody knows about Pinterest by now. However there are certain things you can do to increse the traffic to your site using your pins. When I visit a site and see a infographic I pin it. I include a catching description of the pin and I also include my link to my website just below the description of the pin as a related link.Pinterest users that follow you or search for the same interests, will re-pin that infographic and included is your link in the description. Now that facebook has integrated Pinterest into the timeline, you can get more viral traffic from your url as the re-pins will show up on the Facebook profiles of whoever re-pinned the infographic you originally pinned or re-pinned. Don't forget about Twitter too! when your followers tweet or re-tweet your pins this also creates more traffic. If the infographic has a good title and description, you can add in the url to a certain page on that particular subject and reap the benefits of SEO by correlation. Source: linkedin.com via Shawn on Pinterest ![]() Google Alerts Google Alerts Allow you to create alerts about any subject and shows you the newest results. You can create specific alerts and have them sent to your e-mail. Creating Specific Alerts allows you to keep up to date with the latest information on what's going on in a particular Subject. Whether you want to create an alert for your name or your niche Google Alerts will show you the latest news. I created a Google Alert for HTML 5 Articles. This is how I find out about the latest developments in HTML 5 news. I can follow all the links and read up about HTML 5. I always note certain points when I visit each site.
Now to get back to setting up the Alert's you have to have a Google Account and then login. Search Query:In the search Query Field is where you want to put in your Keywords or keyphrase, you can put Quotes around the query to receive the exact search term Result Type: Select the drop down menu and select what type of results you want to see whether it be Everything, News, Blogs, Videos, Discussions or Books.( Good for Link Building) How Often: Select whenever you want to receive the Alerts, As-it-happens, Once a day, or Once a week. How Many: Only the best or All results. Only the best will give you the latest and most relevant results for your query. All results will give you everything. Deliver To: Deliver to your E Mail address or an RSS feed. Now you want to drive traffic to your Content right? there are a few steps I do to market my content.
In closing I think Google Alerts has shown to be a valuable tool for Internet Marketers and Webmasters alike. Goolgle has many more tools you can use to keep up to date on the latest topics like Google Trends.
There are so many ways to do effective Content Marketing, finding the ways and keeping on top of the latest news, tips, Discussions and strategies can be a daunting task, however Google is making it easy for Internet Marketers to follow the rules by making and sharing more tools and Google Alerts is one of many I use to make Content that drives in targeted Traffic with little to no investment in advertising. ![]() Zurker (Referral Link) is a Social Network that gives it's members vShares like a digital stock in the company.
