Google+ Local Pages paying off for Local search

6/2/2012

I use Google+ for my own business as well as my clients. When Google+ came out with the local pages feature I immediately jumped into it to find out how I can improve the keyword rankings in the Organic Listings for my local clients.

One of the Keywords i use is "Mattress Stores" for a local client called Furniture Closeouts located in Bullhead City AZ. I had set up a Google Places account as well as a Google+ account a while back for the business and linked them together. I was getting mixed results in the SERPs as those keywords were ranking in the top 5.

I added a Local page the other day to my Google+ account for Furniture Closeouts, uploaded some pictures and videos and tagged them. The results shown below are already showing up for the #1 spot
Here is a link to the Local page i created the other day: Furniture Closeouts

Here is the Link to the Query I used on Google+: Mattress Stores
Screenshot below.

While its paying off in Google+ I am still in the top 5 results on Google search for those keywords.i will do some more optimizing and see what happens

Mobile Search
With everything going mobile and as more people use the Google+ App for their local searches I'm sure it will increase the foot-traffic to their local business. However most people still use their default search app on their smartphones, so I need to do some more SEO in order to gain the #1 spot in the Organic Listings.

Adsence For Games

4/24/2012

I have been on the game marketing wagon for the past few weeks and I just noticed that Google is is offering Publishers a chance to have Adsence in the game Apps they develop for Web based Flash Only games.
There are a few requirements your games must meet in order to be eligible:
Current Requirements

  1. Game plays: Minimum 500,000 per day
  2. Game types: Web-based Flash only
  3. Integration: Must be technically capable of SDK integration
  4. Traffic source: Must be 80% US & UK Traffic
  5. Content: Family safe and targeted at users age 13 and up
  6. Distribution: Must be able to report embed destination and have control over where games are distributed

Google's Adsence for Games

  • If you have web based Flash games that have a minimum of 500,00 per day then i'm not sure you really need Adsence depending on how much Google will pay you for Game Keywords. You can serve up your own ads with a little JavaScript and HTML and let other advertisers buy up the ad space that is available set at your own price.
  • Flash Games are of course the best games out there to play when it comes to visuals and Gameplay. I can understand why Google would want to serve up Image rich media ads to best serve their customers.
  • SDK integration is for the Android Platform. Google Play offers Flash Game Apps, Tools, E-Books and so much more so I suggest learning how to use the SDK  from the Android Developers site and start building your Android Apps
  • If you are a U.S. and U.K. developer I would not worry to much about this, they need mostly English sites so Advertisers can effectively market in their targeted Geographic Location.
  • Teenagers and adults love to play Games, most of the teens today and adults as well have smart-phones capable of downloading the Game Apps from Google Play, this is why they want you to target your games for that demographic.
  • Google wants to know where the games are embedded for Analytics and to make sure the ads are on approved sites that are safe for their clients. Google wants to make sure you have control over your games, so you can update, Distibute and market them properly and effectively giving their advertisers a good reason why they should advertise on the Google Game advertising platform.

If you are already a Adsence publisher then great, in your control panel on the left hand side under more products(Pic below) you will see a link for Games, click on it and it will bring you to the Adsence for games sign up form.
Adsence for Games Control Panel
Adsence for Games Control Panel
I'm a Adsence publisher as you can see I have text link Ads on the top and image rich media ads on the left hand side below the navigation. I have incorporated the Google Adsence into my Android Tic Tac Toe Game by adding some simple JavaScript and HTML code from Google without signing up for the Adsence for games program. It works and display fine with relevant adds showing up based on properly placed keywords by the Ad. The game is on the Google Play site and is also updated and hosted on this site as well.

Following my example above is a alternative to make some extra revenue while you game App increases in popularity by downloads and game-play. Give the Android SDK a try and see what you think, its all about App marketing these days and it makes sense to Adsence.

I'm a Google engage for agencies partner and for being part of the program every once in a while they send you gifts to thank you. I just received a nice 2.4 GHZ wireless Google mouse, (My mouse was dying) personalized postcards to send out to potential new clients with $100 in advertising credits from Adwords, a USB flash drive and a chance to receive a new Chromebook when I sign up 10 new clients. Here is a picture of the gift they sent me.

I would really like the Google Chromebook, so if you need a $100 in Google Adwords certificate e-mail me and let me know. You must set up a new Adwords account, this will not work if you already have an account with Adwords. Contact me here: Contact Us and fill out the form.

Google Over Optimization Workaround

3/21/2012

Google Over Optimization Workaround
Google Over Optimization Workaround
With all the recent hoopla of Google's algorithm changes, specifically about sites that may be penalized for over optimization discussed by Matt Cutts of Google, we just have to make sure as Internet marketers and webmasters that we implement a few changes. I would not do a whole site overhaul unless you think your site really needs it, for the most part if it is working for you now and it is not broke don't fix it, just fine tune it! Here is the Audio Link: Google Over Optimization Penalties.

From listening to the audio clip I get a few great tips which I already use here at JavaScripts and More.

  • Links on page: Create links that lead to more information and make those links within correlation.
  • Unique Content: Create unique content that is found no where else on the internet.
  • Social Engagement: Use Social networks to promote your content and create social buzz that people talk about. This creates unique and new content for the search engines to take in.
  • Ad Placement: Place most of your ads below the fold. What Google wants is a better user experience and way to many ads will give an impression of a company looking to make revenue rather that providing useful content.
  • Avoid Redirects: When someone lands on your page do not immediately send them to another page. These pages with redirects are not good user experiences.
  • Buying Links: If you are going to buy links make sure they correlate to your site and that the links are descriptive

I have a few techniques I use here on this site to help my rankings. These tecniques I use work for this site and I have seen the traffic jump drastically and I'm sure by implementing some of these techniques you will also see more targeted traffic.

Correlating Sites: I create blogs from WordPress, Blogger MyOpera and such with links that correlate to each page on my main site. These sites are for informational purposes only and are descriptive with links that include the topic to each page of my main site.

Social Sites: I use Google+, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Chill.com, Zurker and a Stumbleupon just to mention a few to promote my pages. I create contests and usefull content that teaches or gives tips on certain topics that people will like, re-tweet, re-pin(include additional links in your pins to your site) and share to create a viral lift.

Deep Linking: Deep linking will show up in Google's results as additional links below the main result for the search query. make these deep links descriptive and have the same title that matched the page you are linking too. If you have pages that you think are more important, don't put those links no farther 1 to 2 clicks from the main page, this will tell Google about he importance of those links and establish hierarchy.

Tags: Use tags to describe your page by using keyword variations and try to use them within your content on the page.Bookmarking Sites: use these sites to create bookmarks and make them public and descriptive pointing to your site. Google still uses links to rank your site, and when you have popular sites that link back to your pages this gives some of that authority to your pages.

Long Tail Keywords: These type of Keywords are more descriptive and easier to rank for. They can produce more targeted traffic and with Google's new Semantic Search, these types of Keywords will make a big difference in rankings as Google will better understand what the user is searching for.

Additional Resources
Google has also released a video of a Search results quality meeting with some points to follow:

In Closing, I would like to take a minute and discuss why you should not be to worried about over optimizing. Take a look at these other big sites like delicious.com, Digg, StumbleUpon and Social Bookmarking sites. These sites most likely will not be penalized even though they are rich with keyword content using cloud tags and categories that have single keywords and key-phrases.

They have content that is constantly fresh, the sites have been around for a long time, their social engagement is astronomical and they give value to a good user experience. Like I said above, I would not do a site overhaul unless it is giving a bad user experience and is not offering unique content that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet.

Google Alerts for Content Marketing

3/6/2012

Picture
Google Alerts
Google Alerts Allow you to create alerts about any subject and shows you the newest results. You can create specific alerts and have them sent to your e-mail.

Creating Specific Alerts allows you to keep up to date with the latest information on what's going on in a particular Subject. Whether you want to create an alert for your name or your niche Google Alerts will show you the latest news.
I created a Google Alert for HTML 5 Articles. This is how I find out about the latest developments in HTML 5 news. I can follow all the links and read up about HTML 5. I always note certain points when I visit each site.

  • Unique Content: Since Google Alerts show new content I rarely have to worry how new it is however it can be a new post on a old subject so I read it over carefully and follow links contained within in case they point to references about the work and I can determine how new the content really is.
  • Link Building: I always look for a way to add some valuable information so I can drop a link to my specific page that correlates to the subject on Forums and Blogs. ( especially  if they mention your name or business) you can drop them a thank you for the mention.
  • Pagerank-Alexa Rank: I check out the Google Pagerank and Alexa rank to see if this would be a good place to drop my link, in return get some link Authority and possibly more visitors
  • Contact Info: I always note the Author or Webmaster as I may want to trade links or buy advertising at some point. Also the Author may write Articles for my Specific Alerts that I may have set up as they may be an expert on the subject. Ask them if they may want to Guest Blog or write you an Article.
Picture
Google Alerts HTML 5
Now to get back to setting up the Alert's you have to have a Google Account and  then login.

Search Query:In the search Query Field is where you want to put in your Keywords or keyphrase, you can put Quotes around the query to receive the exact search term

Result Type: Select the drop down menu and select what type of results you want to see whether it be Everything, News, Blogs, Videos, Discussions or Books.( Good for Link Building)

How Often: Select whenever you want to receive the Alerts, As-it-happens, Once a day, or Once a week.

How Many: Only the best or All results. Only the best will give you the latest and most relevant results for your query. All results will give you everything.

Deliver To: Deliver to your E Mail address or an RSS feed.

Now you want to drive traffic to your Content right? there are a few steps I do to market my content.

  1. Headline: I make a good headline that easy and short. These headlines are in the URL and generally give a good point to the subject.
  2. Screen Shots, Info-graphics: I take a few Screen Shots and post them up with tags showing examples and this helps add to your content. Pin these to Pinterest and Chill.com
  3. Socialize: I then Socialize my content by posting to Google+, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Zurker, Pinterest and Chill.com for Videos.
  4. In Closing: I write about what I think about the particular content and look towards the future improvements and how it can benefit marketers like myself whether it may be positive or negative.
In closing I think Google Alerts has shown to be a valuable tool for Internet Marketers and Webmasters alike. Goolgle has many more tools you can use to keep up to date on the latest topics like Google Trends.
There are so many ways to do effective Content Marketing, finding the ways and keeping on top of the latest news, tips, Discussions and strategies can be a daunting task, however Google is making it easy for Internet Marketers to follow the rules by making and sharing more tools and Google Alerts is one of many I use to make Content that drives in targeted Traffic with little to no investment in advertising.

You can add a Voice Search Box to your site by adding a little Google Code. Try out the Live Demo Below. Google uses the speech input tribute x-webkit-speech which then transcribes the speech to text. Click on the microphone icon and speak into your microphone clearly.
You can download the source code from the link above. This Voice Search Box only works with Google chrome.

Webmaster Tools-Your Site On The Web-Search Queries-Top Pages

1/26/2012

Google Webmaster Tools
Google Webmaster Tools has  a nice tool that allows you to further optimize your top performing pages for better results in the organic listings.
Follow the Navigation in above title on your Google Webmaster Tools account. Webmaster Tools-->Your Site On The Web-->Search Queries-->Top Pages. Scroll down to where it shows the URL's of the top pages for your site.

There will be a graph showing the Statistics for
  • Impressions-How many Times those pages showed up for Keyword Queries
  • % Change-Shows you up or down the % of change for each Statistic
  • Clicks-Shows you how many clicks there were for those queries
  • CTR-Click Through Rate-Shows how many click over to that page
  • Avg Position-Shows average position of a given page for the queries on the Organic Listings
You will notice a (+ )Box near some of them. Click to expand  and see the addition keywords ( Shown Above) that are driving traffic to that page.
You can then take some of those keywords and  put them in your:
Meta Tags, Head, Body and Footer to finish your keyword optimization for that page.
I then made a categories and keyword text description bolding the main keyword or keyphrase for that page and used in the URL  towards the bottom of the body section.
Next I took those keywords and made backlinks from blogs, forums and Social Networks and started a mini link building strategy I always use.

If you have a product or service you need conversions on, then I would suggest putting "Buy Now" in the Link URL or in the Code In Context and if you have a Local Business put in a map to your store location using Google Maps.
In closing; webmaster tools has allot of features you can use to properly optimize using their tools, its just a matter of taking those tools and further analyzing their results for better analytics which in return helps you to better optimize each page for higher organic listings in the SERP'S.

Google's GOMO Initiative Your Site Mobolized

See what your customers see on a mobile phone. Google's new initiative  GOMO allows you to input your site and see how it looks on a mobile device and evaluates it. The basic 4 categories I scored 4 out of 4 on, not too bad I guess. Look at the results below and go give it a try.

Picture
The 4 Basic categories are below with the results included:
  • Loading Speed: 2.19 seconds. Your site loaded in less than the recommended loading time of 5 seconds.
  • Images: Your site's images are appearing properly.
  • Text: Your site's text is visible without pinching or zooming.
  • Navigation: Your links and buttons are thumb friendly
GOMO also gives you a PDF report on your site that gives a little further in depth analysis. They also give some extra tips and tricks on making your site more mobile friendly and how to market it effectively. There are some resources to help you build a mobile site as well or have a agency do it for your for a specific price and timeline.
This is a useful tool. If you need your site mobilized it's good to have the #1 search engine analyze it for you using their requirements. If you want to know  more about GOMO here is an excerpt from their site:
ABOUT GOMO.
"GoMo is a Google-led initiative dedicated to helping businesses “Go Mobile” by providing them with the tools and resources
they need to make their websites more mobile-friendly. On the GoMo website, businesses can see how their
sites look on a mobile device using the GoMoMeter tool and get personalized recommendations for creating a more
mobile-friendly experience. The site also has information on current mobile trends and mobile site best practices, aswell as a list of developers ready to help companies build their mobile sites."
