I mostly talk about internet marketing, Social marketing and such, however I'm compelled to talk about one of the oldest digital marketing methods in our age; TV Commercial ad Marketing. When it comes down to marketing to a targeted audience, like myself of the male gender, I tend to gravitate to commercials like the new one on truTV they usually show at night by Fiat (see Video below) about the 500 Abarth. Fiat and truTV realizes the fuel crunch here in the united states and by marketing a fuel efficient car is the way to go, but who should they target too? Young working class men generally have the money to spend on a nice looking car that attracts the lady without breaking the bank. This commercial payed off as Fiat says on their website " Fiat 500 sales figures for the month of February are out and the results are good news. Fiat USA reports that 3,227 Fiat 500s were sold last month, a 69 percent increase over sales in January of 1911 units. " I like the look of the Fiat commercial and what guy would not want the girl in the video who is a Romanian model Catrinel Menghia. It makes you wonder what she is saying that can be so sexy and here it is: "What are you looking at? Uh!? What are you looking at?! (slap) Are you undressing me with your eyes? Poor guy…you can’t help it? Is your heart beating? Is your head spinning? Do you feel lost thinking that I could be yours forever?" The song is called "Smokescreen" and performed by the artist Hayley Willis. What she sings in the song and commercial is " fa-fa-fa-freedom" Mix this in with male testosterone and you have a great commercial that you can market to truTV where you have males watching programs like Operation Repo, Lizard Lick Towing, and South Beach Tow which are all car based reality shows with lots of testosterone and funny antics. That leads me to the next kind of Tv commercial where ads are based on humor.Humor Commercials can be targeted towards different demographics and I noticed kids like to stop whatever they are doing to watch the commercial and it lingers with them long after, so their parents not only see it on TV they hear it too. Here is the cars.com TV commercial where a customer and a car salesman see the customers confidence come out and he explains the web-tool that compares cars side by side and you can compare gas mileage. Cars.com reports on their site that "February's auto sales jumped 16% over February 2011, hitting a seasonally adjusted rate of 15.1 million vehicles — the highest annualized rate since February 2008, Automotive News reports".
When it comes to their brand Fiat and cars.com know's how to market it by big Superbowl commercial ads. Online the videos each have millions of hits respectively. Doing some research on Google I see their videos posted on many blogs and video sharing sites as well many car sites too. In closing I find these commercials hilarious and well made, I would definitely go check out the Fiat 500 and as well check out the side by side comparison tool on cars.com. In marketing you want your brand to stick with the consumer and they will remember, that's why most commercial ads contain music! I say good job to the marketers that collaborate on projects like these that target specific audiences in various markets. They got my attention, how about yours?
